Life insurance and successions

The Quebec Court of Appeal rules that the universal legatee claiming the product of a life insurance policy is a third party beneficiary not to be confused with the decease estate. The deceased insured had killed the beneficiary under the policy before he committed suicide. A majority of the Court's judges dismissed the argument brought by the Estate of the beneficiary that was killed to the effect that the universal legatee's claim was contrary to the established principle of insurance law according to which an insured may not benefit from her crime.
